EXPERIENCE THE JOY OF MUSIC

A Music Foundation Built On Education & Caring

Hi, I’m Joy Forbes. I founded Groove with the Guitar in order to bring people together through the positive power of music. My friends and I enjoy putting smiles on the faces of people who watch our concerts in seniors residences, long term care facilities, at school or at home. I also take great pleasure in helping people of all ages learn to play the acoustic guitar and express themselves through this wonderful craft.

I participated in 12 guitar lessons with Joy.  They were well-planned and presented allowing me to make steady progress without being overwhelmed.  I had specific goals in mind…I wanted to sing songs with my young grandchildren. Mission accomplished!  I have a small repertoire and a great deal of fun and pleasure.

Joy's instruction, encouragement and enthusiasm for music has made learning to play the guitar a lot of fun as well as work for the fingers! Thanks Joy!

I returned to playing guitar and singing as a Senior when I joined the “Guitar Groovers” group. Joy brought fun and laughter back into my life. Learning to play guitar as a senior challenge the memory, improves hand-eye coordination, provides a new and interesting goal. We learn new songs, new chords, meet others on Zoom. Even with Covid restrictions, I have not experienced boredom and isolation. We never stop learning.

I have thoroughly enjoyed learning to play the guitar, especially during this period of semi-isolation.  In my opinion, everyone should be able to play at least one instrument.  The beauty of the guitar is that one can sing along too, which is not do-able with all instruments.  It helps to keep fingers nimble and activates brain cells with memory challenges so is a great workout.  The gift of music in any form can transform and lift our spirits.  As we age it gives us the ability to revisit old precious songs that have deep meaning and stored memories.  Joy Forbes encouraged us all in her energetic and positive way to rise above CoVid-19 and see this period as an opportunity for using technology in new ways!

If you are looking for some awesome, knowledgeable people to work with, these are the guys I highly recommend. Their friendliness and result-driven approach is what I love about them.

I enjoy your concerts because the words are there and I can sing along (and I don’t have to worry what I sound like)!  Nice to see “Seniors” performing for us...it makes the performances more real.  Good variety of songs, many familiar!

The residents really enjoyed the  'Lest We Forget' program. They seemed very engaged. They were clapping and tapping along to the songs, as well as singing.  Thanks again

I wanted to thank you for providing me with the Christmas music links to play for the residents. I was able to have both shows played on separate days (5 times each so I could allow all my residents to attend…. by the 5th time I’m pretty sure I knew all your jokes by heart! Haha) They all loved it and appreciated having the Christmas music to brighten their spirits this holiday season! Thank you both for the entertainment you provide!
